A charming pair of Meiji period gouache on silk paintings of geishas. The condition of the silk is pretty fair although as the photos show there is some “foxing” to them(similar to that on old books and watercolours), and a stain on the bottom of one of them. There is also some loss of paint to the face of the standing geisha – through a lens one can see the bare structure of the raw silk – photo 8 shows these marks which appear as dark patches. The frames (probably 1930’s) are in reasonable period condition. It proved difficult to photograph them without considerable reflections from our windows – hopefully these don’t detract from the images. They measure 27.5 inches (70cm) by 13.5 inches (34cm). I will send this with Parcel Force 48 which will require a signature. I’m afraid it is too heavy to send abroad.
