Framed Japanese landscape painting circa 1830s, the late Edo Period, possibly a panel from an antique floor screen. The painting was executed in the Rimpa style, depicting a tranquil forest scene with two towering magnolia trees in duel color blossoms by a rocky waterfall. It sprays splash the single bird perching on a boulder in the foreground. The background was squared gold foil leaf that aged into a mellow patina. The painting with mounted in a brocade backing and framed with Japanese paper backing. It measures 42.5″h x 19.5″w (sight) and 43.75″h x 21″ (with frame). It was indicated on the receipt that the painting was at least 130 years old at the time of purchasing.
