The traditional Chinese style of natural landscape paintings often contain mountains, waterfalls and rivers using a brush and ink is called (san-sui:Japanese)(shan-shui:Chinese). It literary means “mountain and water” in both Japanese and Chinese. Unlike ordinally landscape paintings, artists do not try to present an image of what they have seen in the nature, but what they have thought about nature. The typical landscape of vast mountains, trees and rivers expresses how minor the human presence is in the comaprison of their imaginay utopia. Other motifs often contain in this style of paintings also have unique meanings and wishes. House : a symbol for wealth, Bridge : welcoming guests, River : driving happiness and fortune to you, but what I personally find most interesting among of all the motifs is a little fisherman often appears on a bridge or rivers. This little fisherman would be interpreted as few different things: a symbol of free-spirited man nothing would bother him a symbol of talented resourses hidden deep in the mountains a only man achieved to access to the utopia or just a wish for long lasting life. These San-Sui style KAKEJIKU can be displayed anytime anywhere because of its universal wishes and meanings. The Japanese Hanging Scroll- and how to enjoy them? KAKEJIKU is traditionally displayed in TOKONOMA(an alcove in traditional Japanese room). They maily display for their guests and for carrying out the seasonal events. So why don’t you have a few and try changing them depends on the guests, seasons and even for your feelings! Modern Japanese houses even don’t have a TOKONOMA, so less and less people are displaying them these days. It is a shame that people forget about KAKEJIKU. However it is more important to actually display, respect and enjoy in your own ways rather than following all the traditional ways. You can enjoy freely and display in just like any ways!! This is a cheaper method than EMS and a faster method than SAL. But I don’t recommend SAL. When you request SAL, please contact me. Doing that is against U.
