Antique chinoiserie lamp dating to early 20th century, with a nicely turned wood column and a red lacquered finish with gold, silver and black accents and featuring wildlife, flora and human figures. This is a tall, elegant and imposing lamp of excellent quality. The coolie lampshade is hand painted with an Oriental inspired design to compliment the base, and features a stork, a bird-of-paradise and ravens in a mountain landscape with rocks and a pine tree. The fabric lampshade is not antique but I have hand dyed it in a saffron yellow colour, then hand drawn in pencil and finally hand painted in pigment ink and acrylics. As with all of my lampshades this design is unique and will not be available in the same exact format again. It is see through (some of my other designs are opaque) so the painting can be seen through when lit, but note that some details will appear more prominent than others. The photos show the lampshade with light coming through but in the presence of other sources of light in the room, pics 1-8, but also with it being the only source of light in the dark, pics 9-10. The lamp base is 56 cm tall and the base is 18.5 cm in diameter. The lampshades measures 11.5 top diameter, 40.5 cm bottom diameter, and is 17 cm tall. The lamp base is in very good condition for age free of structural damage, cleaned and waxed to freshen up the chinoiserie design. There are a few small imperfections, chips to the raised design and flakes to the edge of the base typical of age wear see pics 11-12, some aging and crazing, but no significant damage. More photos can be provided on request. Wiring is modern, it comes with a switched earthed brass bulb holder holder, but safety will need to be ascertained by a qualified electrician prior to use. The lampshade is new. Can be used with up to 11 ESE bulbs or 10 W led bulbs. Led bulbs are advisable as hot bulbs could damage the painting in the long run. Photographed with 5 W led bulb.
