The first and second sets 14 books of Gekko Manga series consisting of 3 sets 21 books Irohabiki Gekko Manga???? Ukiyo-e artist and Japanese-style painter of the Meiji and Taisho periods. Born in Kyobashi, Edo. Admired Tani Buncho, Kikuchi Yosai, Kawanabe Kyosai, and others, and studied painting by himself. Around 1887, he and???? Mizuno Toshikata became extremely popular as two of the best illustrators for newspapers. His works include “Gekko Manga” and “Gekko Essay”. He also actively participated in overseas world expositions, exhibiting at the Chicago Columbus Exposition in 1893, Paris in 1900, the 5th National Industrial Exhibition in 1903, and the Japan-Britain Exposition in 1910. Three sets and 21 books of published for 10 years from January 1894 to August 1903. Focusing on portraits, which were Gekko’s forte, various objects such as Yokai, Yurei, ghosts, goblins, and samurai are depicted in the order of Iroha. Dimension of the 14 books including the cover : 6.8″ x 9.6″ x / 5.2 / 17.2cm x 24.4cm x 13.1cm. Dimension of the 1 book : 6.5″ x 9.4″ x 0.4 / 16.4cm x 24cm x 0.9cm. Weight: 2380g in total. Lovely Work Painted Silver Frame. I know almost nothing (zip – nada) about Asian artwork but these have a lovely look and I hope someone out there can help to discover the artist, age and/or country… And thanks so much in advance!!!! Someone told me that it looks to be Japanese…. In Good Condition has light overall toning, linen or silk mat has subtle ripples but has not been examined out of frame.
