This is an antique Japanese plate made by the Fukagawa family, most likely in the early Meiji period. The signature is consistent with that used over several decades and includes the “scented orchid” mark of the family business. Fukagawa (see pictures 8 and 9). As with all pieces made by the companies of this family it is made of high fire ceramic for lasting durability. It is hand painted with a deep blue, persimmon orange and a lot of vibrant gold. Decorated with two beautiful Phoenix, a dragon, birds and flowers all over. An elegant and beautiful piece of Japanese history for collectors and for those wanting to add a quality piece usable art to their lives. This dish measures 10 3/4″ in diameter by 7 1/2″ tall (27 x 19 cm). It remains in very fine condition.
