Son of Takanobu Kano, who died when he was a child. Studied under his elder brother Tan-yu Kano. First worked in Kyoto; then moved to Edo with Tan-yu, who founded there the Kajibashi branch of the Kano family. Became Goyo-eshi (official painter) to the shogun, founding the Nakabashi Kano school. But was later adopted by Sadanobu Kano as his heir; hence also regarded as the 8th-generation head of the main Kano line. A connoisseur of paintings, signed many certificates of authentication for Kano paintings. Achieved rank of Hogen. Worked on the walls of the Shishinden of the Imperial Palace, Kyoto.
