Japanese scroll of a Buddhist monk. It’s written using older Japanese from the middle 1800’s or before. My very educated Japanese wife has difficulty reading it except “It’s Buddhist”. What we find striking is the skill the artist was able to show in the monks expression. He’s holding a monks bowl but look into his eyes. There’s a story there. This was painted by the artist with sumi ink and a brush. There is no room for mistakes using ink. Only the skill of the artist. This is from Kyoto, Japan. The weighted ends are lightly lacquered wood. There are age spots towards the top. There’s a close up of them in the fifth and sixth photos. It’s 80 1/2 x 17 3/4 inches (204 x 45 cm). Up for sale is a wonderful antique 19th century handmade Japanese Kutani porcelain teapot. It’s painted by hand with rich color embellished with shiny gold gilding throughout. The figural scenes are set in a stylized foliated setting and the pot is signed underneath. It also has a removable matching lid that sits recessed into the pot. The pot is in nice antique condition and measures 7 1/4 inches long by 5 3/4 inches tall. It has a small chip on the rim inside that holds the lid and paint ware to the spout from use as shown in last photo. Thank you for visiting “Dusty Treasures ” and please feel free to browse through.
