This pattern and painting style was produced at the Fukugawa kilns and these designs were created by Chuji Fukugawa, per “Japanese Porcelain” by Schiffer 1986. The plate is made with high fired ceramics for lasting durability. Please enjoy the closeup photos to admire the finely painted details in deep orange, cobalt blue and bright gold. This is an antique Japanese plate made by the Fukagawa family, most likely in the Meiji period. The signature is consistent with that used over several decades even without the scented orchid mark which is often seen. As with all pieces made by the companies of this family it is made of high fire ceramic for lasting durability. It is hand painted with a deep red and light and dark blue and decorated with designs of peony flowers, maple leaves and koi fish. Most of the designs are trace in fine lines of gilt (see picture 9). Please note the fine brush stokes visible in the hand pained koi. Seen in picture 8. An elegant and beautiful piece of Japanese history for collectors and for those wanting to add a quality piece usable art to their lives. This dish measures 6 3/7″ in diameter by 1″ tall (17 x 2.5 cm). It remains in very fine condition.
