This is beautiful and Amazing pair of Antique Old Asian Japanese Meiji Lacquered wood Painting Frames (2), painted with ornate patterns of silver and gold, and depicting auspicious Japanese symbols such as leaves, bats, chrysanthemums and butterflies, among others. These frames likely date to the late Meiji – early Showa period and are each approximately 19 inches wide x 46 1/2 inches tall. The two frames are not an identical match, with subtle design variations, but complement each other perfectly. The interior dimensions of the frames are approximately 16 x 42 3/4 inches. A pair of rather beautiful, mother of Pearl inlay, Japanese pictures. The frames are constructed of wood and lacquer, the lacquer being a very dark, brick red ground with floral pattern. The picture board is papier mache with mother of pearl inlaid picture detail depicting Mount Fuji in the distance, lake with sailing boats and two Japanese females in traditional dress to the foreground. Each picture weighs just under 1kg (2.2lbs) unwrapped weight. Any Questions, please ask! Overall, in very good condition given their age. Although impossible to note every imperfection in great detail , there are s ome surface marks and wear here and there on the pictures themselves (see photos) and some lacquer flaked in places on the frames, more so on one frame than the other, however, do display incredibly well and the minor (we feel) imperfections may well be able to be restored if desired.
