An earthenware vase, of flared baluster form. By a Kyoto studio. 1868 – 1912, late 19th century. The body decorated with an array of art pieces including an Ikebana arrangement, a tables with tea wares, a silk/woodblock scroll and Koro burning incense. The installation is painted on a transitional painted and glazed ground, from a deep blue to a soft peach orange. Signed (illegible) in an etched seal to the underside of the base, partially obstructed by original store/collection label. In perfect condition without damage. Antique Meiji era Kyoto hand painted Bowl Japanese Export Porcelain c. Marked Kutani Kyoto Taizan. Literally means Much Good Fortune, and. Means Tortoise, also a lucky symbol for long life. Represents a lovely, always smiling Japanese woman who brings happiness and good fortune to any man she marries. She is also known as the Goddess of Mirth. Is the name for the female half of a traditional Japanese. She is considered to be the Goddess of mirth and is frequently seen in Japanese art. Her full cheeks and merry eyes are an unforgettable sight and a delight to behold. Some Japanese scholars theorize that long ago, when the first. Images were created, they may have represented an idealized form of feminine beauty. Shes known as a goddess of mirth in the Shinto religion, and is often seen with Hyottoko, a god of wind or Fukusuke, a male counterpart who also represents happiness and good luck. Beautiful moriage enamels accent this snow scene. Beautiful intricate hand painted nishi decoration on the Okame silk garments. Nishi depicting a woven cane 5 star design around the inside rim accented with falls color lotus plum leaf motif. Outside bowl the Plum flower or Cherry blossom accented with green leaves accents in gold. Rusty red and gold accents of leaves and a stylized chrysanthemum flower. Porcelain with a nice ring when thumped. Evidence of ash fly pitting on bottom. Believe this piece to be from the KYOTO Japan area kilns of the Taizan era. Beautiful bowl nicely marked.
