She was the daughter of a high-ranking samurai. She was a highly respected Nanga painter, poet and teacher (at one point, she had nearly 300 students). She lived and worked in Edo (Tokyo) in late 19th century. Size: 204cm x 50cm Condition: Good Considering the time, it was made. (damage & stains & creases). We can translate the deciphered calligraphy to English. But, if it is a poem or in Chinese, it cannot be translated. The top is also hand painted in gold paint in good order with fading and rubbing but essentially in great condition. One of the best we have seen for a while. It is an amazing box that has. Its original colour for so long although the top paint is slightly faded. I always think these boxes are so underrated as they are over one hundred years old and hand worked. A highly important antique Arita ware bowl. The bowl with a six-lobed moulded rim, exquisite milky-white “Nigoshide” glazed body, brown rim. Edo Period c 1680. Height: 4,6 cm 1,8 inch. Diameter: 14,1 cm 5,6 inch. Condition: no chips, no repair, a fine hairline crack, some wear to the glaze of the inside rim, see pictures.
