“Keizan Seishu” was selected for the first time at Bunten in 1919, and has since been active in Teiten, Shinbunten, Nitten, etc. In 2012, he became a doujin of Nihon Nangain and presided over the art school Bokuunsha. Died on October 16, 1950. His real name is Kosuke. The characters are clear. Hanging scroll with the image of a withered skull lying between flowering suzuki grass (pampas grass). Beloved theme of nozarashi skull (exposed in an open field) in the fall. Black ink, brown and some gold and silver on silk. Dated and signed: 1915, Unrei and artist’s seal. Borders (mounting) decorated with brocade skulls and suzuki grasses. Painting: H 51 ½ x W 20 ¼ inches. Total height of mounting 79 ¼ inches. Studied painting with Unsen Koyama, Tikugai Fujii and Himejima Chikugai. Suzuki or pampas grass symbolizes late summer/fall.
