This painting depicts Susanoo-no-mikoto (the action of talking about something), who appears in Japanese mythology. It depicts the scene of exterminating Yamata-no-Orochi (Yaamata no Orochi). Susanoo no Mikoto, who is fighting against Susanoo, stays at his feet with Kiinadahime (Kushinadahime). It is a work that is very skillfully made with goldfish and eel. Sakata Kaido Maru is the common name of Kintaro (Later, Kintoki SAKATA) and was painted in many ukiyoe prints in the Edo period. The combination of the Kaido-maru and a giant carp is a motif of Tango no Sekku (Boys’ Day) decorations, and the idea of Kuniyoshi, which combines the images, is welcomed not only in the Edo period but also in the present day.
