The paper is generally in good condition. There are some minor foxing. This is a picture scroll depicting Ippen, the founder of the Jishu sect of Buddhism, during his travels to various countries to teach Buddhism. There are two lines of Ippen Shonin E biographies: one compiled by Shokai (Ippen Sho-e) and the other by Sotoshi (Ippen Shonin Engi). The 12-volume scroll (1299) in the collection of Kanki-ji Temple in Kyoto (part of which is in the Tokyo National Museum collection), in which Shokai wrote the text and En’i painted the illustrations, is a national treasure.
