An Absolute fabulous antique Paper Mâché Japanese tray. It is in a decorative Oval style shape. The tray has an overall floral design with beautiful hand-painted lace surrounding the center bouquet of flowers. Around the frame of the tray is all handpainted leaves and florals. The tray does have some paint loss and chipping around the edges but considering its age I believe its in very nice shape. The tray measures 21 inches wide and 13 inches tall. And the back of the tray which is in real nice condition I found a little signature stamp that says made in Japan. Please look at all pictures very carefully and close up , For they are part of the description. There is around 50-100 high definition super-sized pictures at the bottom of this page. These chairs are very rare, original circa 1880, the distressing to the paintwork is. Exquisite, you couldn’t make it up, we have professionally restored these to include a deep clean which was two days work for two employees, the paint has been stabilised with any loose flaking rubbed off, the chairs have then been waxed and polished sealing the remaining finish from any further losses, the end result is sublime. The chairs have the original metal hand hammered strap work to the corners, native scenes carved into the back splats, there is one loss to one corner that I can see, otherwise they are all present and correct. These are a genuine barn find, they were in the same place for around 60 years totally untouched and luckily dry. Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask. This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses SW19-3BE, we can have it delivered nationwide to include Scotland Wales and Ireland. Welcome to our store and thank you for your interest in this Asian Antique Japanese Imari Bowl Circa 1840 from the Late Edo to Early Meiji Period Hand Painted Porcelain Dish with a Scalloped Rim. This precious rare beauty has an underglaze of cobalt blue with an over glaze of red with hints of green. If you appreciate hand painted Japanese porcelain from the mid 1800’s or earlier, this will make a delightful addition to your growing collection. You can see the brush strokes and imagine the fluidity of the artist’s spirit and hand, which is very different from the more graphic, tightly rendered interpretations you see on vintage and recently manufactured Imari reproduction pieces today; which are still quite beautiful, only in a different way! Item: Hand Painted Porcelain Bowl. Region & Country of Origin: Arita, Japan. Period: Late Edo to Early Meiji Period. Age: 1840’s or earlier. Approximately 180 years old. Size: 6″ wide across the top rim x 2 5/8″ high x 2 5/8 wide across the base. Depth within the bottom of the foot measures 9/16″ deep (a little better than 1/2″ deep). Shape: Round with scalloped edges around the top rim Weight: 12 ounces Condition: Beautiful for its age. Surface wear commensurate with age and frequent use. No chips or cracks to the porcelain. Wear to the hand painted enamel decorations is evident throughout. Tiny pitting (or pin marks) from time of glazing and firing can be seen upon close scrutiny inside the center area of the bowl and on the underside at the central area within the 9/16 deep bottom rim; which is only bisque fired and unglazed around the very bottom edge of the rim, leaving it with the fine gritty texture of a bisque fired piece. We’ve had this in our private family collection since the 1970’s; acquired then as an antique, at a time when our father brokered steel manufactured by the Japanese. Thank you for your interest.
