Sterling Silver Japanese Fan hand engraved with Gold inlay, Ohgi by Takehiko. Vintage Japanese Sterling Silver Fan Ohgi Takehiko. By PICTURE ATTACHED DOCUMENT FOR JAPANESE LANGUAGE. The wooden frame glass case measures19,5″ high x 16″ wide x 2.75″ deep including the base and the silver fan inside the case measures 7.0″ wide x 4.5 high. Takehiko Seki is a well-known master silversmith who has been producing many elegant precious metal ornaments. Takehiko Seki II (Kazuo Seki) studied silversmith under his father Takehiko I since his middle school and he had established Seki Kohgei Co. With his father in 1963 after he had graduated from college. He had received a prize from the Minister of Labor for his work “Image of the Sea” in 1989 and established himself as a silversmith in his own right and recognized as a Master of Traditional Crafts in 1990. He had succeeded his father’s name Takehiko upon his fatherâe(tm)s 88th birthday in 1996. Their silversmith crafts are based on the traditional Japanese metal craft known as the Kazari-Shoku in Japanese and originally the Kazari-Shoku craftsmen work with metal sheets and produce decorative ornaments for Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples. It was Takehiko I who wanted to realize a wider range of exposure and recognition for the craft works that were made of precious metals (they work with gold as well) by blending his traditional craft with modern techniques and design. The motif on the fan is called the Shochikubai design and it is an auspicious decoration made up of the pine, bamboo and plum blossom symbolizing longevity, strength and beauty. The word itself is taken from their individual names, “sho” for pine, “chiku” for bamboo, and “bai” for plum. The combination of the three is considered to be particularly lucky. Also the shape of a spreading fan is considered good luck in Japan and it is called Suehirogari. The spread fan has the shape that widens toward the end from the pivot and this implies good luck as prosperity and auspiciousness increase more and more as time goes. The condition of the piece is very good and its age is from the 1970’s. As always, should you have any questions just let me know. GREATc1900 JAPANESE MEIJI DRAGON FIGURAL SILVER PLATE MIRROR PHOTO PICTURE FRAME. This is an early 20th century Silverplate dragon frame. Fantastic detail border, high relief, there is no back easel. Previous owner has it hanging on the wall. Measures 8 1/2″ by 6 1/2″, approximately 4×6 inside measurement. I can find no hallmarks, but clearly early 20th century. Antique Japanese Silver Filigree Hand-Etched and Painted Bone Bracelet Landscape
This is a stunning, rare. Four-paneled silver bracelet made in the mid to late 1800’s. There are four panels, each separated by an unbelievably. From research it seems this is sterling silver, but not tested. Each hinged panel appears to be hand-etched then colorfully painted. Each panel is hinged and slightly curved to fit snugly on the arm. But the stars of this beautiful piece are the hand-carved panels of gorgeous landscapes with trees, mountains, and dwellings. Each carving is unique, and the ink/paint is vivid and in excellent condition. The clasp slides to pull apart and is connected by a small chain, so that it does not fall off the wrist when taking it off. One hinge is soldered but still works properly, and another is disconnected at the top of a hinge but also still bends. It is wearable as is, but you may choose to have the hinge soldered in order to prevent further wear. Beautiful, unique piece to add to your collection! Additional Chain 1 3/4in. The porcelain was painted by hand to depict a dragon using white, deep blue, gold, red, pink, and green paint. There is a beautiful crackling pattern on the paint that only occurs as the piece ages. A pin stem with an open “c” clasp allows this piece to be worn on a variety of accessories, including hats, scarves, and lapels, among many others. Damage: Age appropriate wear. This listing is for the item only. This was very true due to the gorgeous designs that came out of this period. This era focused on women, and the beauty of nature and the pieces were often large. Enamel was a standard material used in Art Nouveau jewelry as the period was more about the importance of the design over the materials used to create it. The Art Nouveau period happened before the start of the first World War, when mass manufacturing took over the production of many products, including some jewelry. Porcelain is a ceramic material that is very suitable for creating beautiful tableware and jewelry. It is a hard, heat resistant, opaque ceramic, which makes it a wonderfully tough decorative material. In jewelry the porcelain pieces were/are painted and glazed and set in brooches, earrings and necklaces. It can be glazed for a lovely shine, or left unglazed for a more earthy, natural look. Unglazed porcelain is called biscuit porcelain, which was popularized by Wedgwood, the British ceramic company. Porcelain served as a popular “canvas” for miniature portrait painting in the 19th century. The Meiji era is a period of Japanese history which began in 1868 and lasted until 1912. During this era, radical changes began to occur throughout Japanese society, which saw a shift away from isolationism and feudalism to a society influenced by European and North American political systems. As well as adopting Western styles of government, Meiji Japan was also influenced by Western culture, including architecture, fashion, and jewelry. Jewelry from the Meiji era is unique from earlier Japanese pieces, as well as jewelry from the West, representing Japans attempts to redefine itself as a world power while still retaining its traditional culture and practices. Intricate work with bronze and cloisonné enamel was prevalent during this time, as were pieces featuring cultured freshwater pearls, coral, and diamonds. Brooches were especially popular amongst Japanese women during the Meiji era since they did not alter the body, as were traditional nesuke (small carvings worn on the belt of a kimono) and okimono (decorative objects). Just as Western jewelry influenced Japanese jewelers, the pieces produced during the Meiji era became very popular amongst Western jewelers and collectors and, to this day, remain highly sought amongst modern collectors.
