Restored and repolished document/ jewellery box in lovely condition. No missing or replaced timber and in really good restored condition. The paint work although a little faded is in remarkable condition given is early age. The paint has been layered on quite thick and is a slow process to build up. The lid is easily removed and placed on fitting in place perfectly. The box would have taken many many hours to accomplish as the whole box is all hand carved work to resemble the bark of a tree. When you see it in front of you you will appreciate the work that has gone into it. The box is one of the finest we have seen for a long while. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS BOX. ALL OUR BOXES ARE QUITE UNIQUE WITH HIGH QUALITY INTERIORS. All our boxes come with after care instruction. We take a lot of pride and care in what we do. Comprising a wonderful interior that has been relined in expensive plush velvet material of the highest quality. All the additional dividers within the box and be repositioned or removed if desired. It measures approx 32cm high and 24.5cm wide 12cm deep. It is made of wood with metal hinges and handles. There are silk tassel to the top doors metal closures. There are two lower drawers and three drawers behind the doors. It is decorated to the outside with hand painted scenes of lotus flowers, a bird and mountain views. To the sides there are fern motifs. The inside of the top doors is lacquered with gilt painted trees on rocks and white boat sails with birds flying in the sky. It has a Clockwork musical movement to the lower drawer- The Song from Moulin Rouge- It does work but this may need a clean/ service to bring it back to its former glory. It does have a few slight scratches and marks commensurate with age, there is a chip to the right hand door- not visible when closed. Overall a lovely vintage musical jewellery box. Vintage Japanese Black Lacquer Hand-Painted & Pearl Piano Musical Jewellery Box. This is a Vintage Japanese Black Lacquer Hand-Painted & Pearl Piano Musical Jewellery Box. This is a stunning piece and is in full working order and in excellent condition. The jewellery box is shaped as a grand piano with a black lacquer finish. The lid has been hand-painted with a Japanese scenery. Within the scenery are inlaid pieces of mother of pearl, which is a lovely feature. The lid fastens with a metal clasp. The lid lift on a hinge to reveal a red, felt lined jewellery storage with a dancing ballerina. As she dances in front of a right angled mirror Brahm’s Lullaby is played. There is also a flat mirror for use. The ballerina has golden hair and a golden dress with a white, netted tutu. The sound produced is beautiful. The keys of the piano also lift to reveal a bracelet storage compartment, also red felted. The winder is underneath the box. It is marked: FOREIGN underneath. The top is also hand painted in gold paint in good order with fading and rubbing but essentially in great condition. One of the best we have seen for a while. It is an amazing box that has. Its original colour for so long although the top paint is slightly faded. I always think these boxes are so underrated as they are over one hundred years old and hand worked.
