THIS LISTING IS FOR A SUPERB REVERSE GLASS PAINTING, PROBABLY JAPANESE IN ORIGIN AND DATING TO THE END OF THE 19TH CENTURY. THE DETAIL IS EXCELLENT WHICH DEPICTS A JAPANESE GIRL AND A LITTLE BOY IN A GARDEN SURROUNDED WITH PLANTS, FLOWERS, TREES AND BIRDS WITH A ROOM SETTING IN THE BACKGROUND. ALL IN ALL IN VERY GOOD ANTIQUE CONDITION BUT AS AN ANTIQUE IT WILL CARRY SCARS FROM THE PASSAGE OF TIME AND IS EXPECTED TO HAVE MARKS OR BLEMISHES. Ukiyo-e is one of the painting styles established during the Edo period. The history began with the beginning of the Edo period, and the paintings on the theme of life and fashion, prostitutes, actors, etc. Showed a surge, centered on the populace. An earthenware vase, of twin-handled, pear shaped form. By the Kinkozan studio. 1868 – 1912, late 19th century. The body depicting twin scene panels, one with figures offering sacrifice to the deity Kannon and the other with villagers in rejoice around a Ochaya dwelling. The diaper borders filled with rich gilt patterning atop a bold cobalt blue ground. The vase fitted with a pair of ornate baroque-style scrollwork handles. Signed “Kinkozan Zo” in an embossed seal to the underside of the base. Excellent Condition, without any damage.
