Japanese late Meiji Era c. 1890 ceramic imari lamp with Chinese style Dragon. It has a hand painted design of peony flowers of various colors, other flower, leaves and decorations. The Dragon is raised from the surface as if coiled around the lamp. (see pictures 7, 8 and 9 for all angles). The lamp is made of a high fire ceramic for lasting durability. The base is made of a very hard dark wood. Having been in storage for over 100 years, it remain in fine condition. The ceramic lamp alone measures 6″ in diameter at its widest by 12″ tall (15 x 30.5 cm). With the base, light socket and lamp shade holder it measures 27 tall. Five(5) woodblock size: 15 1/4″ to 15 1/2″ W 10 1/4″ to 11 1/4″ H (size vary). Two(2) ceramic plates size: 5 1/2″ W 5 1/2″ L 1 H. He served at the Kyong Sung Middle School (a school for Japanese students that later became the Seoul Middle and High School) and stated in Korea until 1945. In the early 1950’s he began designing woodblock prints for the publisher Kyoto Hangain. Signed and sealed of the artist. There are good impression but there are some mat lines. This is a mid Showa era (c, 1950) hand painted flower vase made by Fujigawa co. Perveyors to the imperial household. (see signature on bottom – pictures 6 & 7). It features a peony flower design in blue red and gold and. Is made of a high fire ceramic for lasting durability. Having been in storage for over 60 years, it remain in very fine condition. The vase measures 10″ tall and 7 1/2″ in diameter at its widest (25 x 19 cm). The mouth opening measures approximately 3 1/2 wide (9 cm).
